Lake Brittle PerchIts been a while since I fished Lake Brittle so I decided to check it out this weekend and rent a jon boat. It was a cool September morning when I set out for some fishing fun. The surface water temp was 73 degrees, however. I trolled around a spinner rig targeting walleye but didn’t get any bites. Using the Bottom Line fish finder, I focused on the 10-15 ft depth. But it became apparent that the fish were not relating to any one depth as I was picking up fish activity in all different depths. Most of the activity seemed to be in the middle of the lake. That seemed interesting to me since all the other anglers appeared to be focusing mainly on shoreline structure.Lake Brittle CrappieLater, I rigged one rod with a bobber and minnow and let it drift. While I was fiddling with my other rod, I got a bite and then reeled in a decent sized yellow perch. Since the spinner rig wasn’t producing anything, I then decided to troll two rods. I rigged one with a diving crankbait and the other with a Roadrunner jig tipped with a minnow. The crankbait didn’t get any bites but the minnow tipped jig actually produced a couple of crappies and a bluegill; none of which were large enough to keep. But at least there was some action! I actually got several more strikes on the jig but had failed to land them. I might have set the hook a little hard on these paper mouthed crappies. I was fishing alone so unfortunately the only pics I got were of the fish. Check em out!
